Couple Quick Sketches

So I have a couple of sketches I would like to upload, one is of my coffee mug which I drew just before my sociology class on Wednesday, I had arrived about 20 minutes early so I said, why not sketch something in with my moleskin real quick. So I saw my mug and said that looks like a good one to draw. I thought it turned out rather well, only the actual roundness of the mug doesn't seem quite right to me, otherwise it was splendid.

My other Drawing is a view of the studio I drew Tuesday Night as others were working on their egg projects. I was doing it because I felt my original one was not very good and I wanted to try again, so I sat down at one end of the studio and began to work. By the time I finished I didn't like it either but felt it was abit of an improvement and now I do really enjoy looking at it.

Wow, another post already, yes its true but I had another drawing I wanted to produce that I felt needed some attention. This view is not of the wonderous Tate Street but of really my view from my bed. Having finished my classes on wednesday I decided hey what the heck, I'll practice some drawing. So I sat down in my bed under the covers. and proceeded to sketch away. This was very hard for me because of my issues adding the 3rd dimension but in the end I was satisfied with the way it turned out. I especially like the folds of my Duvet, I thought my drawings of them really illustrated that the surface was not flat, I even got a bit of where it was propped up by my knee in there. Towards the end when I was trying to get my desk into the sketch I was really starting to worry about the angles all these things needed to be drawn at, but by taking a moment and looking at the drawing I realized it conveyed what I wanted to show, the area around my bed and particularly my towel hanging down from the bed post.

Tate Street

With the Labor Day weekend starting early this semester, a few of the IAR students decided to head off to feast at the local Jimmy Johns, some of us noted that Tate Street Looked like a wonderful place to draw and so a few of us stayed behind following lunch to sit down and really try and sketch it. My drawing while not what I hoped it would turn out like is still very good in my opinon. I have noticed that my real flaw with my drawings is that I add to many finer details before I have even completed an outline. I also have trouble showing depth and giving the feeling of a 3rd dimension with my drawings. These are things I plan to practice some more, and I think that Tate Street will likely be the focus of alot of my drawings for some time yet. The old buildings really attract my attention, and it just seems to have that beauty that is almost difficult to describe until you actually look at it. These first 2 weeks of classes have really helped me open my brain and now I see these beautiful things I would like to draw everywhere.

First Post! And a Breif Review

So it is my first post on my new blog, hooray! I would like to spend my first post talking about a drawing that caught my eye on Ruben Fletcher's Blog. In particular the piece that was attached to "Another One Bites the Dust" the piece is of a building that is in the process of being demolished. I like this drawing because of the amount of detail that is present in it. It is actually both detailed yet simple, as while you can see a lot of the accents on the walls of the interior such as trim and the cabinets and drawers off hinges and hanging open. It makes the exterior of the drawing look plain and devoid of detail. The drawing really caught my eye because it is of a building being demolished. Most people draw a building that is very pretty, instead he chose to draw one that was in the process of being torn down. Look for more posts by me in the future.
